I just read an update on the Sutton cam site that the Ada eagle has died/Infection was just too much for her to overcome.I sure hope they find who was responsible and do what federal law is supposed to do to them.

Kestrel visitor at last night's Minnesota Twins' game.

The following is an excerpt from the blog: "Ask the Birds and They Will Tell You"
From time to time throughout the game, the Twins' announcers, Dick Bremer and Bert Blyleven, commented about an American Kestrel that was perched on the right field foul pole. The camera operators showed the bird to the TV audience several times. Finally, late in the game we saw the kestrel actually catch a moth in mid-air and then eat it while perched on the foul pole. The Twins lost 2-0, so that little falcon was really the star of the game!

Can anyone here tell the fate of the (New York City) Riverside Park Red-tailed Hawk chicks? According to Lincoln of the Palemale website, the nest blew down yesterday but he doesn't say if anyone rescued or tried to rescue the chicks. Here is the info I have thus far:

http://www.palemale.com/

I hope, hope, hope someone tried to intervene to save the chicks! (fingers crossed)

Bruce Yolton is a photographer in New York who follows the hawks and other birds.  From his blog, the news is not good:

"Sad News At Riverside - May 8, 2010

In the high wind late today, the Riverside Park nest was destroyed and all three eyasses perished. I have not been to the nest site yet, so all I know is second hand.  Reports from fellow hawk watchers say the eyasses were already dead when they were found among the remains of the nest, so they died quickly.

The mother was seen looking where the nest had been, and then flew off.  The remains of the nest are on the ground, which includes lining material and a half eaten pigeon. After a day or two expect the parents to rebuild the nest, although it is likely that this replacement will not be used until next year, if not at all.

Leslie Day reminded me that two years ago, those eyasses also perished the day before Mother's Day. This family seems to catch all the bad breaks.

This is just another reminder of the high mortality rate for Red-tailed Hawk babies. Over 70% die in their first year."

Oh that is just too sad! The little tykes seemed to be doing so well and if not for the heavy winds we'd have had 3 more cuties to watch growing up. Strange how nature works sometimes..............

Just found some info about " Phoenix". He was born about May 1. I found a picture from his very early days.

I don't see a link or input on the Gulf Towers  in Pittsburgh(Ithink) There are babies there, but they popped out after the greenery got tall and unless someone will hop up there and mow, I can't see them Undecided  Unless clever Kittenface can figure a way... Cheesy

I hope those little ducklings make that leap of faith soon - before momma owl starts looking at them in a different light.
