4 It almost looked like five, but somehow that one didn't look "eggy" enough for me What's average for ospreys?

2 is average but 3 isn't uncommon. This couple is very fertile (assuming it's has been the same pair). It's disappointing we'll never know their heritage.

They hatch about 35 -39 days after incubation starts so start a close watch next weekend (I have the 31st calendared as day 35). Happy Memorial weekend! Maybe this is a better picture for the weekend of the fishing opener (I didn't take the picture).

I checked yesterday's archives and the male was hanging around alot. Watch for signs of a feeding as an indication of a hatch.

The chicks are so hard to spot at this age since they camouflage so well. To find the chicks, look for a light strip down the spine. Here's a great site I found with a photo track of the chicks growth: http://www.cumauriceriver.org/pages/ef-slide/ef-01.html
