I still can't tell how many there are - but they certainly are cute:

I think there were five eggs. The clutch size of these guys always blows me away. I understand that the Pawnee kestrels eat alot of lizards - not a common part of the kestrel diet up here, according to Bob.

These chicks are really growing rapidly. I noticed that they are left alone most of the day now; I only caught an adult checking in maybe three times yesterday.

According to Xcel posted on the kestrel news page on May 7, only four of the five eggs hatched.

I'm glad they posted that - it is hard to count these little guys! It's fun to see their little wings develop. Maybe it's just me, but they seem more frenetic than the eagle babies.

These 4 little ones are growing so fast -- they are no longer little balls of gray fluff!! A bit of wing stretching starting over the past couple of days as they prepare for the outside world. Mom & Dad are very busy and both are doing a great job of keeping the gang well fed.

The little ones have spent most of the morning huddled together while looking out the entrance hole. Guess they are waiting for their next meal while getting a look at the big world outside of the nesting box. They're looking very healthy and I'm sure it won't be long before they take flight. Gonna miss 'em!

They're on their way!!! Just took a look at the webcam and just 1 little guy remains in the box but looks like he's gathering courage to join his siblings. I'm sure he'll be on his way very soon.

Thanks so much for posting the photo, Nora. I wasn't aware that the adults were still around so this is a nice surprise.

Both together in the box at dusk on a freezing night; the time stamp on the photo is off; this was near 5 p.m. At least most of the snow seemed to stay out of the box here today.
