I decided to start a separate thread for this cam since we're approaching a lull in the birding world.

I came across this interesting website from a Google alert.  One Barn Owl chick hatched Saturday morning and the other 3 should hatch shorting.  I had it up on the corner of my monitor, walked away, then heard a man's voice!  I came back and it must have been Carlos Royal, who put up the cam in his yard, who had cut into the viewing by voice only, and givng viewers information about what to watch for, etc.  The male had just come in and mated with the female so he was discussing that.   Here's the article:

Watch Molly the Owl live: Live owl cam shows Molly and McGee the barn owls and their offspring

Carlos and Donna Royal set up an owl box equipped with web cam approximately two years ago, and shortly thereafter, Molly and McGee moved in. Nature took its course and the birds produced four offspring. One day in June, the birds flew away after capturing the hearts of millions of viewers who witnessed the event live through UStream. However, Molly and McGee have returned and once again, laid four eggs and captured the hearts and attention of viewers online.

The Royals have taken advantage of plenty of social media networks and you can follow Molly and brood on Facebook, Twitter and on the Mollysbox blog here: mollysbox.wordpress.com/blog .

Earlier today, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the first egg hatched delighting fans across the country. There are three more eggs ready to hatch at any moment.

You may watch the live owl cam of Molly, McGee and their four offspring in the video player below.

Here's a news clip.

Carlos cuts in occasionally to give information.  Tonight, egg #2 hatched, Carrie.  Chick one is Ashley.  I think they will be on the Today show next week.  I started watching while he already talking.  Maybe it will tomorrow!

FYI, the cam is in color during the day.

I meant to get a shot of Maggie, but I was too slow.  Here's Carlos, the webcam owner, cutting in for the nightly update.  This is "operation central", or, a room in his house.  He's really into this!

Wow!  I went back the chick had already hatched!   Shocked  The pictures I tried to save didn't really show the chick.  Well, here's mom "cleaning up" after and eating the egg and the "leftovers".  The 4th egg is due to hatch on Saturday.

Lots of excitement this morning. Apparently Molly went out one too many times for food and arrived home after dawn - followed by a Cooper's Hawk! He stayed for half an hour trying to scare them all so they would come out. Molly was too smart for that. Eventually, he went away and all is well. Love these owls.

That's good news Maple.  Molly probably learned a valuable lesson too - glad that she is OK.

Dot I read at the Molly site that they are not going to have the cam operating during the 2011 season.
