Ornithological and Research Societies and Centers

The Ornithological Society Online: BIRDnet
Includes links to ten major ornithological societies, a list of recent ornithological literature, useful grant and research information, and links. The webmaster has found the list of ornithological literature to be quite helpful.

Patuxent Wildlife Research Center
This site includes information on various monitoring programs, the environmental contaminants database (this is nicely done), a bird quiz, a database of declining and endangered species, and lots of other stuff. Be sure to check out the What's New and Publications sections, as well as the Bird Monitoring in North America list.

Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology
Studies, publications, an online "sounds" database, and birds, birds, birds! A nice site.

US Fish and Wildlife Service Species Page
A compilation of interesting species-related information. Includes "fact sheets" and some great links (look under "Common Species" at the bottom of the page).

The World Center for Birds of Prey
The granddaddy of Peregrine recovery. Also information on Harpy Eagles, Aplomado falcons, and other birds of prey.

Audubon Society
I am an Audubon member. This site includes a lot of information and resources - it is great for anyone who enjoys birds! Resources include birding information and maps, the ABCs of backyard feeding, information about legislation and legislative priorities, and opportunities to get involved in 'Citizen Science'. Check out the Christmas Bird Count - I do this every year and it is a lot of fun!

Bird Studies Canada
A partner in the Christmas Bird Count, Bird Studies Canada has information about BSC's many programs, great online reports and publications, a "breaking news" feature, and links to other sites.

The Canadian Peregrine Foundation
This is an awesome site - cams, tracking, information, you name it. This group was formed in 1998 to assist in recovery of the Peregrine falcon in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada.

Iowa Ornithologists Union
Iowa birding information, a list of events, checklists, birding data, and more.

Wisconsin Society for Ornithology
A neat site with a lot of information including publications, research, and activities.

The Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group
Discusses recovery (and much, much more)! This group was formed in 1975 to help restore California's Peregrine falcon population. There is a great deal of information, links, and pics.
