Nestflix: Decorah Eagles

It’s time to roll the Decorah Eagles Nestflix! Everyone is happy that they’ve already found a new perch on one of the remaining maples! We have bonding, nestorations, stunning close-ups of Mom, and video of Mom on the new perch. I hope you enjoy this as much as we did, and thanks as always to our wonderful camera operators and video makers for finding and sharing such special moments! Perch pictures credit Brian Malaise, and kudos to Dave Kester for finding the perch before the eagles did!

February 20, 2020: Mom, DM2 to the nest, Mom flies to the new maple perchhttps://youtu.be/4MyAYLq0yEU. It took roughly a day for Mom and DM2 to find a new perch! They’ve taken up on one of the remaining maples and seem happy and content arranging materials in the nestbowl. The sun is shining, the temperature is rising, and Mom and DM2 are getting ready for eggs. I especially enjoyed DM2 working on the nestbowl during the middle section of this video. The nest is high enough that we can’t see most of hist chest – just his head, poking up above the crib rails!

February 19, 2020: DM2 brings a squirrel to the nesthttps://youtu.be/5pTKcQfr1xQ. DM2, you need to share with Mom! He did, eventually: https://youtu.be/a9YMNGtUO7o.

February 19, 2020: Mom has fish for breakfast, nestorationshttps://youtu.be/N_3kAD7MQxg. It’s interesting to compare the Decorah and Decorah North eagles. Egg lethargy appears to have set in at the Decorah North. While the egg clock is ticking in Decorah, Mom and DM2 appear to be a little earlier on in the process. In this video, Mom enjoys a little breakfish on the branch cafe before bringing home the nestovers. At 7:39, she pulls some nesting material out from underneath the snow before flying away.

February 19, 2020: Mom on the Y, closeupshttps://youtu.be/OTbhzpo1GRM. Twenty-six beautiful minutes!

February 19, 2020: Mom climbs aboard DM2 while working on the nest togetherhttps://youtu.be/LoQpNvtvG7Q. Board member Dave Kester and I shivered in the cold as we tried to observe Mom and DM2 from the ground. We should have gone inside and turned on the computer! Mom did not let the work at the hatchery stop her from giving DM2 a little attention…
