Fri-yay News and NestFlix!

April 29, 2021: Mom at the hatchery!

Happy Fri-yay, everyone! DN13 is 35 days old, DN14 is 33 days old, peregrine falcon Zooey has laid three eggs, and the day couldn’t be more beautiful! I loved all of these videos, but don’t miss Cute Close-ups (it shows some really interesting differences between DN13 and DN14), DN14 in for the steal (which casts a nice light on eagle behavior), DNF earning her Wright Brothers Master Pilot of the Year award, or the incredible American Avocets on the Mississippi

News and NestFlix from Decorah North, Great Spirit Bluff, and the WI Kestrels!

April 26, 2021: Nestflix from GSB, Decorah North, and the WI Kestrels

We have your news and Nestflix! DN13 and DN14 are growing by leaps and bounds and gaining new skills as they expand their explorations by walking around the nest, attempting to self-feed, and taking defurring lessons from DNF. I loved all these videos (April 22 was a very big day in the nest!), but don’t miss DN13 walking (albeit a little unsteadily), DNF talking in her sleep (this is beyond cool), and DN14 preening Dad Mr. North. At GSB, Newman

April 21, 2021: Nestflix and news from Decorah North and Marshall!

April 20, 2021: DN13 is standing on its own two feet!

What’s going on around our nests? At Decorah North, DN13 and DN14 are 26 and 24 days old, and growing by leaps and bounds! Remember our post on development in the third week? We’ve seen all of it – rapidly growing eaglets, pinfeathers and tracts of coverts pushing through natal down (squeeee!), expertly synchronized pooping, pellet casting, parent imitation, and – fanfare! – standing on their own two feet! Mr. North has to watch his toes when he’s dropping food

April 18, 2021 ~ Day Trip to Decorah: Yay, Yay, Yay!!!

April 18, 2021: Robin sees Mom feeding three bobbleheads!

Story and photos by Robin Brumm I went to Decorah today. I know it is only two weeks since the hatch, and wasn’t expecting to be able to see the eaglets yet, but since it was a nice day and I decided to take a chance and just check. When I got there, DM2 was on the nest. I couldn’t see any eaglets, but it looked like things were pretty quiet. I waited quite a while and saw DM2 looking

April 16, 2021: NestFlix and news from Decorah North, Great Spirit Bluff, and the Mississippi Flyway!

April 15: Mr. North saves the day!

We have your Friday night/Saturday morning NestFlix! At Decorah North, we have emerging pinfeathers, poop shooting, pellet casting, and Mr. North saving the day! Do not miss the eagles locking talons on the Mississippi Flyway. This is a rare thing to capture on video and shows a rare behavior once thought to be exclusive to courting or mated couples. And congratulations to falcons Newman and Zooey on their first egg at Great Spirit Bluff this year! Happy Fri-yay and super

April 12, 2021: Nestflix and news from Decorah North and the Mississippi Flyway!

April 12, 2021: DN14, left and DN13, right

Kick your feet up, grab something warm, and get ready for NestFlix! At Decorah North, the eaglets experiment with new food, test their tiny wings, and show us their newly found poop-shooting prowess! DN13 and DN14 are 18 and 16 days old today – smack dab in the middle of their third week of life. We are looking forward to Mohawks, mega Cropzillas, pellet casting (yesterday’s fish tail was not 100% digestible, DN14!), pinfeathers, eaglet explorers, and even bigger Clown

April 7, 2021: Clown Clompers and Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!

April 7, 2021: DN13's New Clown Clompers!

Do you like eaglet clown clompers? We love them! DN13 and DN14 seem to have gone from little dandelion bobbleheads to great big clown clompers almost over night. Their gray wooly thermal down is coming in, their little wings are sporting feather fringes, and they are flexing their rapidly growing feet and tiny talons. Motoring is limited to crawling, but they manage to explore outside the nest cup and find new places to hike outside the confines of the parental

April 5, 2021: A Day Trip to Decorah!

April 5, 2021: Mom feeding. You can see something stringy hanging from her beak!

By Robin Brumm Monday was my last day of spring break. Hmm…what should I do?? Go to Decorah, of course! I spent Friday and Saturday and there were no signs of a hatch either day. I know that the eggs usually hatch at 35-40 days old. I had looked at the nest records and noted that for the last three years, the first egg has hatched at 39 days. If they laid the first egg on February 24th, 39 days

April 3, 2021: News and Nestflix

April 3, 2021: DN13 left, DN14 right

We have nest news and nestflix! DN13 and DN14 are nine and seven days old today. The age-based difference between the two is very apparent, with DN13 weighing roughly 25% more than DN14 right now. The two eaglets are busy eating, scuffling, cuddling, sleeping, and escaping the bright sun under Mombrella and Poptent. Please feel welcome to join us for a special Easter chat tomorrow from 5-8p.m. to celebrate them! Looking forward to falcons? We’re still waiting for eggs at

April 1, 2021: A visitor to N2B!

April 1, 2021: No fooling! A three-year-old subadult eagle stopped by N2B!

Somebody stopped by the Decorah Air Branch & Breakfast on April 1 at around 8:20am. Robin Brumm writes: “There was quite the beauty that stopped by N2B and the maple (M2) this morning. I’m guessing that it is about 3 years old. I know we all would like it be one of Mom and Dad’s offspring, but unfortunately, we will never know, because they refuse to wear name tags!” We haven’t seen Mom or DM2 in a few days. While
