Commemorating Memorial Day

Honoring Memorial Day in 2021

This weekend we are commemorating Memorial Day to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who died serving in America’s armed forces. On behalf of all of us at Raptor Resource Project, we extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have served or are serving our country. Fly high and free! The bald eagle is the emblem of the United States, and its fierce beauty and proud independence aptly symbolize the strength and freedom of America.

May 15, 2021: Day Trip to Decorah

May 15, 2021: Mom, DM2, and the eaglets. Everyone is home!

. Story and photos by Robin Brumm I last went to Decorah 2 weeks ago, so of course, I had to go on Saturday. RRP believes that the eaglets started hatching around April 4th or 5th. That would make D37 about 6 weeks old now. The eaglets grow so fast, I didn’t want to wait too long to go visit. I think I picked the gloomiest day to go, but any time I get to see the DE family is

We have Turkey Vulture hatch!

May 27, 2021: Turkey Vulture hatch!

Both turkey vulture nestlings have arrived! Bit #1 hatched on April 26 at around 5:00 AM CDT, while Bit #2 arrived on April 27 at around 1:00 PM CDT. They are the third and fourth turkey vulture to hatch since we began watching. You can watch them live here: https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/missouri-turkey-vultures/. If you’d like to watch what we can see of hatch, check out chickiedee’s first and second hatch videos: https://youtu.be/L3wYh-etbL0 and https://youtu.be/L3wYh-etbL0. Eagles and falcons feed their young chunks of

Four American Kestrels hatch today in Wisconsin!

May 12, 2021: Four Kestrels hatch in one day!

Sorry to post so late: we were out looking for peregrine falcons today. I got back into the office to find out that four American kestrels hatched at the Wisconsin nestbox this afternoon! You can watch them live here: https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/american-kestrels/ or here: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/cams/american-kestrels/. Let the games begin – and we’ll see if the last egg hatches tomorrow!

More Visitors at N2B!

May 11, 2021: A Canada Goose at N2B

We’ve seen a Canada goose nesting up on hatchery rock for at least the last couple of years. But now one is interested interested in N2B! It appears to be checking out the nest pretty seriously at 5:54, settling into a shallow depression and taking the nest bowl for a brief spin before flying out. Did the goose create the scrape? While we didn’t see it on camera, we think it did! We checked over past footage and did not

May 1, 2021: Day Trip to Decorah

5-1-21. Mom feeding D37, D38 & D39.

Photos and Story by Robin Brumm The weekend comes around, so of course, it is time to go to Decorah. Since everybirdy is still in the nest, I don’t have to leave at dark o’clock, so off I went at light o’clock, lol. When I got to N3, Mom was in the nest with the eaglets. I’m guessing they had eaten before I got there because I only saw a head peek up a few times. DM2 was perched in

May 5, 2021: NestFlix from the Flyway and Decorah North!

American Golden-Plovers on the Mississippi Flyway

We have your NestFlix! We hope you enjoy these videos as much as we did. On the Flyway, we see adorable goslings, an interaction between a subadult bald eagle and a sandhill crane, and a beautiful little plover that makes one of the world’s longest migrations! Lake Onalaska is a critical refueling spot for this bird’s epic migration from Central and South America to the high Arctic tundra. At Decorah North, eaglets DN13 and DN14 are growing feathers, meeting important
