Why am I being required to sign in to view your live streams?

We’re aware that some of you are getting a message that you need to log in when you’re watching live streams on our website. This is the result of changes made by YouTube. Rumors abound as to why, but those of us who work with embedded video are primarily concerned with making it stop. The Raptor Resource Project and Explore.org do not require login or proof of humanity to watch any of our streams.

I’m trialing something over on our North Nest page that – knock on wonky sticks and talons crossed! – seems to have solved the problem for at least a few of the people who contacted me about it. If you’ve been having this problem, give the North Nest stream a try again and email me at [email protected] to let me know whether or not it worked. Explore.org also put out some information on this, as follows: If you have a YouTube account, logging in is the easiest way to get it to clear. If you don’t have a youtube account, here are some options you can try:

  • Clear your browser cache
  • Reboot your device
  • Disable any ad blockers
  • Disable any VPNs
  • Disable browser extensions that let you download Youtube videos

Amy’s note: The DuckDuckGo browser might be another possible solution IF the YouTube cookie rumors are true. If you like to try new browsers and want to give it a shot: https://duckduckgo.com/. Again, feel welcome to let me know what you find out. DuckDuckGo is a free browser that limits tracking and blocks a fair amount of ads. I’ve used it and like it.
