Welcome to the world, eaglets FSV52 and 53!

Fifty-three eaglets: what a milestone!

Ma FSV laid four eggs this year: a real surprise to us, since she most likely began nesting here in 2007 and has been a three-egg layer for years. She is a 2002 hatch from a nest roughly 45 miles east of Platteville, Colorado, while Pa was captured and banded as an adult by a wildlife biologist working with the Denver International Airport.

The Decorah Eagle nest became more famous, but Xcel Energy’s Fort St. Vrain nest was our first. Bob Anderson and Rob MacIntyre put a webcam up in 2003, back when uploading a picture every two minutes was a big deal! Life can be hard on the Front Range, but we love this nest. If you saw our eagle play-by-play yesterday, you know that John and I both had recommendations for making the world a better place for all the animals we watch and love. Amy suggested getting involved with local and regional groups that advocate for locally loved landmarks, wildlife, and plants: parks, rivers, gardening groups, and of course Bald Eagles. Go Ma and Pa FSV!
