March 7, 2021 Day Trip to Decorah!

March 7, 2021: Mom flying off a tree near N3.

A Day Trip to Decorah, by Robin Brumm. Thanks so much for sharing, Robin! We are so happy to see Mom and DM2 again! I decided to make another trip to Decorah to see how Mom and DM2 were doing. One good thing about nesting time is that whatever time I get there, an eagle is always on the nest, so I don’t have to get up at Dark O’clock! I left at Dark ‘thirty, this time, lol. When I

February 26, 2021: Mom incubating at N3

By Robin Brumm I had the afternoon off for an appointment on Friday, so decided to make a quick trip to Decorah to see what Mom and DM2 were up to. I figured if we had eggs there would be somebirdy there. If not, I would be watching an empty nest. When I got to N3, I didn’t see anybody. I wasn’t sure if I was happy about that or not! I took a few pictures of the nest, and

September 5, 2020: Day Trip to Decorah

September 5, 2020: Who is this? We need to get the talon-painting crew deployed!

Story and photos by Robin Brumm I got up at Dark O’clock to head to Decorah. It had been a week since the camera went down and I wanted to see if D36 was still around, and I was going to meet a friend there. When I got to the hatchery, Mom was on the new maple tree. My friend said she had heard squeeing and saw a juvie fly to the southwest before I got there, but she wasn’t

Day Trips — Favorite Summer Memories

7/27/20. Mom IS Authorized Personnel!!

Photos and story by Robin Brumm I have been to Decorah a few times since I last wrote a day trip, so today you get an assortment of my favorite memories from my recent visits. One memory that stands out was from an early July visit to Decorah. The Juvies were on the ground at the hatchery and flying back and forth all over the place. All of a sudden, I noticed D35 flying low across the hatchery grounds. She

July 1, 2020: D35 on top of Command Central

Photos and story by Robin Brumm Decorah was calling … or would that be squeeeing? No matter, the pull was felt, and I decided I needed to go to Decorah again to see the Juvies, and headed out Wednesday morning at dark O’clock. When I got to Decorah, D35 was on the mulch pile at the hatchery. She flew off and landed on the roof of the hatchery kiosk and then flew to a shed roof and a garage roof

Story and photos by Robin Brumm Sunday was supposed to be a nice sunny day, so I got up at dark o’clock and off I went to Decorah! It was a foggy morning and that gave the drive a mysterious feel. I was hoping that the fog would lift by the time I got to the hatchery. As I pulled up to the intersection by the hatchery, I saw both adult eagles. Mom was in the new maple tree (M2)

August 22, 2019: Sub-adult eagle in Decorah

Story and photos by Robin Brumm Thursday was supposed to be mostly sunny and high temps in the mid 70’s … What to do, what to do? Go to Decorah of course! So I got up at dark o’clock and off I went. When I got to Decorah I didn’t see anybirdie in the usual perch places. I parked the car and looked up at maple, and there was the sub-adult (SA)! How do they do that … Just appear

Greetings from Decorah!

July 3rd, 2019: Mom Decorah

Photo and story by Glenn & Darlene Miller We arrived in Decorah on June 22 and had no sightings of either Mom or DM2. It wasn’t until Tuesday, June 25 that we finally saw Mom and DM2 sitting on a dead tree far upstream west of N1 along Trout Run. It was great to see them together and especially to know that they are both continuing to stay in the area. On June 27 they both were sighted again on

Photos and Story by Robin Brumm. Thanks, Robin!  I had decided to go to Decorah on Tuesday to meet some friends. On Monday night as I set my alarm to get up at Dark O’clock, I was thinking about Mom Decorah. I kept saying over and over … please show up at the hatchery tomorrow … and, by the way, I think no matter what time you get up in the morning during the summertime, it is not completely dark,
