January 5, 2019: Day Trip to Decorah

Robin Brumm's photo of DM2 and Mom on January 5, 2019

Story and photos by Robin Brumm When the weather is going to be sunny and a decent temperature is predicted, I can hear Decorah calling, so I got up at Dark o’Clock (on a weekend!!!) and off I went! As I pulled up to the intersection of Trout Run Rd, and Siewers Springs road, I looked in all the favorite perch spots. No one on the Y branch, the maple tree, or the bluffs, so I turned toward the nest.

January 11th Friday Nestflix!

1/10/19: Barred Owl at the Decorah North Nest

TGIF and Happy Fri-yay! We have Nestflix from Decorah, Decorah North, and the Mississippi Flyway. I loved all of these videos, but don’t miss the barred owl visitor and giant stick at Decorah North (the stick was big enough that it took planning to get to the nest), coyotes on ice, or Mom’s very fresh two for one fish special in Decorah! I love seeing life in and beyond our nests and on the Mississippi. Who would’ve guessed that we’d

01/08/19: NestFlix Round-up for Decorah, Decorah North, the Flyway, and GSB!

01/08/19: DM2 at N2B

Tonight’s Nestflix features videos from the Decorah Eagles, Decorah North Eagles, Mississippi Flyway Cam, and Great Spirit Bluff cameras. I liked all them, but especially loved the nest guard duty and close-ups in Decorah, this morning’s nestorations at Decorah North, and the vivid Red-Bellied Woodpecker at GSB. If you can only watch one video, make sure to check out the eagle buffet and coyote visitor on the Mississippi River Flyway Cam. This was fascinating for so many reasons – multiple

D27 Update

D27 on January 7, 2019

Thanks for the airmail, D27! It looks like she’s decided to stay in Decorah for now. Brett commented “Perhaps the mild weather has had something to do with her sticking around or maybe this is what we can expect for future years – stay where the getting is good.”   D27 did take one long trip in December – a one-day jaunt to the Mississippi River! At 10:00AM CT, she was located about 1.3 miles NE of her natal nest

Who’s on N2B? A guide to what we saw in Decorah this year!

DM2 on October 16, 2018

So what happened in Decorah this year? The quick version: UME-2, who we will be calling DM2 from now on, is Mom’s current and third suitor since Dad disappeared in April of 2018. To the best of our knowledge, this is what happened… As watchers know, Mom lost her mate Dad following a heavy snowstorm in April of 2018. A male eagle that we called UME and then DM turned up shortly after Dad’s disappearance, and we believed that he would eventually

01/03/19: Eagles on Ice, flyway cam

Happy Saturday and welcome to this morning’s video round-up! Grab your favorite beverage and snacks and settle back, because we have a whole lot of videos here! We normally open with the Decorah Eagles, but we were so charmed by the eagles on ice that I put the Flyway first tonight! I also really enjoyed the Mom close-ups, the stick breaking in mid-flight, and the mating video from Decorah North. If you’d like to learn more about Hairy versus Downy
