D27 in Decorah. Photo by Robin Brumm
Where is eagle D27? Despite the cold weather, she continues to hang out in the Decorah area. She’s spending a lot of time on the Upper Iowa and has been in the vicinity of her natal nest. We hope to go looking for her in the next week or two, since we would love to see how she’s doing and what she looks like! Thanks for the airmail, D27, and please stay safe, warm, and well-fed!
I got to thinking about what D27 looked like and wanted to share this great video and capture from Robin Brumm: https://youtu.be/yF1dDe9ZqQU. It was wonderful to see our sleek, brown young eagle again. Wondering what she looks like now? This link provides a nice guide to aging bald eagles by plumage: https://www.featheredphotography.com/blog/2013/01/27/a-guide-to-aging-bald-eagles/.
If you’d like to follow the travels of all the bald eagles we’ve tracked, please visit our interactive maps: https://www.raptorresource.org/learning-tools/eagle-map/. A thousand thanks to Brett Mandernack and the staff of Eagle Valley for sharing their insight, maps, and data with us!
