And then there were four! Peregrine falcon Alice, the last of Savanna’s eyasses, fledged yesterday at 6:57 PM. I loved her strong flapping and, as Tulsa pointed out, spring off the camera arm – just like an expert diver off the diving board. As of this post, Alice, Jaycie, and Kami are chilling on the top of the nest box, while Thomas is exploring the cedar perch. If you’d like to see Tulsa’s full fledge video, follow this link: https://youtu.be/ezEt-0MQnus. She’s also got a really nice look at prey sharing – so cool! – here: https://youtu.be/1C0Srm02dkA. 3:46 is especially cute as Thomas feeds Jaycie.
The next few weeks will be very busy as the young falcons hone their flying and hunting skills by chasing Newman, one another, prey, and anything else that catches their sharp eyes! Newman will continue to provide care for at least another month as the young falcons explore their world and begin to drift further from home. We’ll be watching them here and looking for them on the Flyway!
Congratulations to super Dad Newman and much mourned super Mom Savanna on their beautiful young.
